Steve is upset after visiting with the burned man he'd found. Steve feels like he owes the man something, but he can't explain it.

Kayla knows better...

She knows there is a good reason why Steve is upset. Just then, Carrie and Benji come home...

Benji has been hurt...

Carrie explains that some kids at the park teased Benji, and threw rocks at him because he couldn't speak or hear.

Steve is angry

Kayla thanks Carrie for babysitting Benji. Carrie says it was no problem, she and Benji became friends on Stefano's island.

Steve apologizes to Carrie for being upset, he thanks her for taking care of Benji.

Steve and Kayla talk to Benji about what happened in the park.(Benji then takes a nap).

Steve is still upset...he doesn't understand how anyone could do that to Benji. Kayla tells him that kids can be cruel...

"It's not just kids, it's everybody. If you're a little bit strange, if you're a little bit different, people don't want to know you. They don't want to see you..."

"If you're a little deaf kid, you're a man with  burn scars all over your face, or you lost a part of yourself. Like this! They don't want to know you."

Kayla knows  that Steve isn't  simply upset about Benji or the man that was burned

"When I'm in the room with that guy...baby,  I feel...he turns away so I can't see how he looks. I just feel like he feels. I know what that is. .."

"Seeing him...is like seeing myself again. Like going back to that first time.. I looked in the mirror when I lost my eye. That thing looking back at me was like some monster, like something from a freak show..."

"It takes a little time, but you get used to it...it just never stops hurting you know?"

"See baby, I can take it, the way I grew up, I had to be tough all my life. I can take this kind of thing. But what about this guy, what about Benjamin? He's just a little kid, how is he supposed to understand people throwing rocks at him?"

"Benji is a very strong little boy. Just like you were, when you were a little boy. And I believe Benji can handle anything, as long as he's with us."

"I hope so...but this guy. What about this Mr. Noname, Mr. Noface? He don't have nobody.."

"Oh that's not true. He has you. And you have me. And I will always be with you...always"

Steve tells Kayla that most people can't stand to see someone who is different. Kayla tells him that those people are ignorant and afraid...

"That doesn't make it any easier when you're a hood they don't want to look at." Steve stops himself, saying he shouldn't be complaining. He has it a lot easier than the burned man. Kayla tells him that's not true. He didn't have it easier.

"You are where you are because of who you are. It's because of your strength, that's what got you through all the bad times. That's what made me fall in love with you..."

"...And Mr. Johnson, just for the record..."

(Kayla touches Steve's patch as she says:) "I love the way you look...and I think it's sexy."
