Determined to break through to amnesiac husband Steve, Days of our Lives'
Kayla mounted a
seduction that didn't quite go according to plan. Mary Beth Evans and Stephen
Nichols' engaging
performances made viewers fall in love with the couple all over again.
Luring Steve into the lounge at Chez Rouge, Kayla turned up the heat in their
stagnant relationship
Smiling sexily, her eyes twinkling, seductress Kayla grabbed her man by the
lapels and kissed him
forcefully. Steve responded tentatively with the perfect blend of befuddlement
and ardor. When Steve
pushed Kayla away, Nichols shook his head and spoke rapidly to emphasize
his reluctance.
But Kayla would not hear it. She sense her presumed-dead husband still wanted
her. Again Steve
succumbed to her amorous advances then pulled away. Evans' lips quivered
and her eyes filled with
tears as a confused Kayla asked if she'd misinterpreted his signals.
"I like kissing you. That's not the problem, " Steve whispered. Evans instantly
switched from hurt wife
to angry tigress. "Do you think this is fair?" she demanded. "Wanting you,
but not really being able to have
you?" Evans touched her hand to chest to symbolize Kayla's breaking heart.Nichols
stared into Evans' eyes
as Steve bluntly, but gently, explained he wanted to make love to the woman
he remembered-otherwise
it would just be sex.
Evans quickly turned to hide Kayla's embarrassment and took a deep breath
before verbalizing Kayla's
worst fear. "What if you never do?" she murmured sadly.
Steve vowed he would not leave Kayla, and Nichols powerful declaration gave
viewers
a glimpse of the protective Steve of yesteryear, as well as hope for a reunion
of this beloved
supercouple. They took a giant step toward facing their past-which will clear
the way to a
future together
