Kayla sees Steve at the park. She's given a lot of thought to what he said--to take him as he is or walk away. She's made her decision.

"What's your decision baby?"

Kayla pulls Steve close and shows him her decision.

Steve tells Kayla she doesn't know what she's getting herself into.

He tries to turn Kayla off by telling her about his preferred daily routine...

Kayla isn't buying his tough guy act.

Steve says he has nothing to offer Kayla...she is better off without him.

Kayla listens incredulously

Kayla wants to know why Steve keeps pretending to be some kind of jerk.

Kayla's had enough, and tells Steve:
"I care about you Steve, I care about you a lot, and you are making a big mistake turning your back on me, because I am the best thing that ever happened to you!"

Kayla runs out of the park.

Steve watches in awe...

Steve looks for Kayla at her family's fish market, but doesn't find her.

They both end up back at the park

Steve asks Kayla if she is ok. When she says she is, he says "good, now get out of here". Steve thinks he is no good for Kayla--she deserves better. He wants to protect her from the likes of him...

Kayla doesn't want to be protected from him--and she thinks Steve is actually just trying to protect himself.

Kayla knows that he is trying to scare her away because he is afraid to get close to her.

He says she can think whatever she wants to, he knows they don't belong together.

Steve listens as Kayla says:
"The last few days, all I could think about was Roman and Marlena, and of how happy they always were... now Roman's alone.."

"But nothing can ever take away all the wonderful time they spent together. And all of a sudden I realized, maybe once in your whole life something really special like that comes along..."

"And then poof...out of nowhere it's just gone."

"Steve we have a shot at something really special here and I just don't think we should just throw it away, I think that's stupid and I just don't want to do it!"

(Steve gently says to Kayla) "You're crazy you know that? Look at you, you're all upset over someone like me...if you had any sense you'd walk away right now before I ruin your life completely."

Kayla tells Steve that if he can look her in the eyes and tell her that he doesn't care about her, she will walk out of his life for good.

Steve tries...

...and fails.

Steve walks Kayla over to the fish market. Kayla says she knew he couldn't do it...

...she knew he couldn't look her right in the eyes and tell her he doesn't care about her.

(Steve  admits to Kayla): "I care about you! And I want you!"...

"I can't  fight you anymore Kayla. But I can tell you the truth. I still think you're making a big mistake here. "

Kayla tells him to let her worry about that. She gives him a big hug and heads back to the door of the fishmarket.

"After this you're just going to leave me standing here in the cold?" (Kayla has to go inside to console her family--they are grieving for Marlena's death).

As soon as Kayla makes it to the door, she looks back at Steve, and runs back into his arms.

Steve watches her go back into market.

"What have you gotten yourself into here dude?"
