Duke (Steve's abusive, biological father), tries to visit Jo...

Jo (Steve's mom) almost died after Duke's last beating. Steve warns Duke to stay away from her.

Steve and Duke start fighting...

Kayla comes by and tries to stop the fight

Duke hits her and knocks her to the ground

Steve sees Duke hit Kayla.

He pulls a gun out of his jacket...

And warns Duke: "You just hit the last woman"

Kayla tells Steve to put the gun down...

Kayla gets in front of Duke, to stop Steve from killing someone.

Steve remembers everything he went through as a child because of Duke...and what Duke did to his mother

He listens to Kayla tell him that he won't be any help to his family or to himself if he is in prison for murder

Kayla asks him to give her the gun

Later, Jo tries to comfort her son.

Kayla asks Steve if he really would
have killed Duke...

Steve says that if Kayla hadn't stepped
in, he really would have killed him

She's glad she stopped him, but she understands why he hates Duke so much.

Steve asks if she is ok, and gently touches Kayla's face where Duke hit her.
Steve wants to keep her from everything bad...

"As long as you don't keep me from you, as long as you don't do that".
